Botulinum Toxin is a neurotoxin protein that stops the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine responsible for contracting muscles. It is locally injected in the muscles that produce expression lines mainly the obicularis oculi (crows feet), corrugator (frown lines) and the frontalis (forehead lines).  As a result of the injection the muscles relax and without being to contract the expression lines are disappear. The treatment effect usually lasts 3 to 6 months and hypothetically without the contraction of the muscle it can prevent the skin to crease causing damage to the collagen structure of the area. Men’s skin is different in structure to that of women’s and therefore require a larger amount of the toxin to produce the same effect. The application is also different since the desired expressions on men’s face as a result of the treatment are different, i.e. a less raised eyebrow is more natural for men.
