Acne

Acne is a disorder of the skin’s sebaceous glands that affects over 80% of the population aged 14-30.It is mainly cause by a bacteria called Propionibacterium Acnes and an blocked pores by overactive sebaceous glands deep in the skin. The effects on personal appeaance caused by acne and acne scarring can cause significant psychological, social and occupational problems.

There are a number of treatments available other than antibiotics that have shown a significant improvement in the condition with minimal or no side effects. We usually recommend a combination of the treatments below that can be used for acne on the face, chest and back.

We use the Ameson Mesopeel range of organic acids which are mild and very effective, progressively improving the condition in a series of treatments. A mixture of salicylic and azelaic acid is ideal to improve acne and acne scars. Salicylic acid is a beta hidroxy acid with adstringent, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that regulate sebum secretion and reduce the oiliness of oily-acneic skins. Azelaic acid is a dicarboxylic acid that has comedolytic, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial action effects, it netralises Propionibacterium acnes in the pores, helping fight acne and brown spots due to acne.

It has been shown that the major bacterial cause of acne  can be destroyed by the application of light in different wavelengths by penetrating in the skin’s blocked pores, and heating the overactive sebaceous glands reducing sebum output. IPL is a broaband light therapy that delivers different wavelengths to penetrate the skin at different depths. It is thought that reversible thermal damage to sebaceous glands can result in long term remission from acne. Gentle heating of the skin promotes fibroblast activity and stimulates collagen which may reduce mild acne scarring and accelerate the healing process.

Either chemical peels or IPL alone can show a significant improvement on acne in just a few treatments. For even better results we recommend a series of both treatments alternated every 2-4 weeks apart. During your consultation we will assess your condition and recommend the best option for you.

Acne scars can be sunk or raised, they result from an excess of collagen produced during the healing process. A combination of acid peels, microneedling and mesotherapy can drastically improve the appearance of acne scars in as few as 4 treatments.

Our advanced tech facials for acne use a combination of galvanic desincrustration to help unclog the pores and remove blackheads, along with high frequency which is an electric therapy that helps fight bacteria.
